Please don’t go

(Written to my Mother-in-law when she was unwell)

Please don’t go
not just yet
there's much to say
lest we forget

Share inner thoughts
gift me your smile
stay here at home
tarry a while

Tell your stories
where you have been
treasured memories
all you have seen

Come have some cake
a cup of tea
bask in the sun
spend time with me

Tell how it was
the highs and lows
life's adventures
I want to know

Laugh, sing and cry
us together
precious moments
to remember

You belong here
deep in my heart
special, treasured
not far apart

I think of you
and truly care
don't want you gone
the cupboard bare

So please don’t go
for many years
I'm not ready
to shed those tears
